WE ARE FINE JUST LIKE THIS | ESTAMOS BIEN ASÍ

“¿Quién eres?” Esa es la frase que le va repitiendo un abuelo a su hija, fingiendo que tiene alzhéimer para evitar hablar de historias del pasado. Sin embargo, su nieto, que se esconde de su madre para fumar, descubre que su abuelo hace comedia. Los dos llegan a un acuerdo para que la madre no se entere de sus secretos, que quieren mantener guardados. Su relación va evolucionando con mucha complicidad, mezclando humor y ternura, la juventud alejando poco a poco el tabú que puede ser el pasado. Pero, “estamos bien así”, y no todos están listos para que aparezca la verdad. Estamos bien así es un cortometraje divertido y tierno, que resalta lo no dicho con mucha inteligencia y sutilidad.

'Who are you?’ a grandfather insists on asking his daughter, as he pretends to suffer from Alzheimer’s in order to avoid talking about the past. Eventually, he is found out by his grandson, who regularly sneaks off behind his mother’s back to smoke, and they both agree to keep each other’s treasured secret. Their relationship evolves complicitly, combining humour and tenderness, as youth slowly breaks down the taboo the past can represent. However, ‘we are fine just like this,’ and We Are Fine Just Like This is a fun and sweet short which highlights what is left unsaid in a clever and subtle way.

Mehdi se recibió del Instituto Superior de Artes Audiovisuales de Túnez y se licenció en Teatro, Artes y Música de la Universidad de Bolonia, en Italia. Dirigió tres cortometrajes, seleccionados y premiados en varios festivales internacionales. Estamos bien así es su tercer cortometraje.

Mehi graduated from the higher institute of audiovisual arts in Tunisia and from the Universitá di Bologna (Italy) in Drama, Art and Music Studies. He has directed three short films, all selected by and awarded at various international festivals. We Are Fine Just Like This is his third short.
