En un contexto de grave crisis sanitaria en El Líbano, donde la población vive rodeada de gigantescas montañas de basura y sufre lluvias ácidas, vive Hala, una mujer joven profundamente aferrada a lo que queda de su hogar. Es la única en negarse a seguir la evacuación masiva y en tratar de quedarse mientras todos los demás huyen de la ciudad. En este corto lleno de nostalgia y sensibilidad, Mounia Akl demuestra una dirección artística impecable, invitándonos a reflexionar sobre la noción de "casa" y la difícil decisión de dejar atrás la historia para aceptar el exilio.

Within a severe sanitary crisis in Lebanon, in which people are surrounded by gigantic piles of rubbish and endure acid rains, there is Hala, a young woman holding on to what is left of her home. She is the only one to refuse to follow a massive evacuation and to try and stay while everybody else is running from the city. In this sensitive and nostalgic short Mounia Akl displays impeccable artistic direction as she invites us to reflect on the idea of “home” and the hard decision to leave history behind in order to come to terms with exile.

MOUNIA AKL

Mounia Akl es una directora y escritora libanesa que divide su tiempo entre Beirut y Nueva York. Se graduó en Arquitectura de la academia universitaria de bellas artes libanesa Balamand e hizo su maestría en Dirección de Cine en la Universidad de Columbia. Aparte de dirigir, enseñó Dirección de Cine en el instituto de verano del National High School Institute de la Universidad de Northwestern en Chicago y Guion en Columbia, Nueva York, donde fue ayudante de cátedra de Richard Peña. Sus trabajos incluyen cuatro películas de ficción, dos series web y Lights, el más reciente, un largometraje coral de seis capítulos dirigido por seis directores, entre ellos Mounia, producido por Breaking Waves Pictures, un colectivo cofundado por ella en Nueva York.

Mounia Akl is a filmmaker and writer from Lebanon living between Beirut and New York. She holds a BA in architecture from ALBA and an MFA in Directing from Columbia University. Apart from directing, Mounia has taught Film Directing at the NHSI fi lm summer institute at Northwestern University, Chicago and was a preceptor in Screenwriting at Columbia University, New York where she was also Richard Peña’s teaching assistant. Her previous work includes four fiction films, two web series and recently Lights, an omnibus feature film made of six chapters directed by six directors, including herself, from Breaking Waves Pictures, a collective she cofounded in New York.
