Silencioso y solitario, Omar vaga sin rumbo, robando a los transeúntes para ganarse la vida."Madame Courage" ("Señora Coraje") es el psicótropo que consume a diario para sentirse invencible, nombre curioso ya que puede también relacionarse con las otras mujeres en su vida: su hermana, su madre y Selma, una joven con la que se obsesionará luego de robarle, persiguiéndola días y noches, quizás porque es la única que entiende su desamparo... El director muestra una realidad social y psicológica tan desesperantemente cruda, que la frontera entre documental y ficción se desvanece. Uno pensaría que Adlane Djemil, que interpreta Omar, posiblemente ha sido este pilluelo.Allouache mantiene un ojo crítico e inflexible sobre la sociedad argelina, convencido de que "los directores originarios de estos países en pleno cambio tienen un deber de compromiso en sus películas" (M. Allouache, Biennale di Venezia, 2015).

One might even come to think that Adlane Djemil, who plays Omar, has been this helpless boy.Allouache sustains his critical and relentless view on Algerian society convinced that “filmmaker originating or living in these profoundly changing societies cannot escape a duty of commitment in his or her films.” (M. Merzak Allouache nació en Argelia. Estudió Dirección de Cine en Argel en el Instituto Nacional de Cine y subsecuentemente en el Instituto Superior de Cine (IDHEC) en París. En 1976, dirigió su primer largometraje, Omar Gatlato. Vivió en Francia entre 1983 y 1988 y luego volvió a Argelia para dirigir Bab El Oued City (“Ciudad de Bab El Oued”) en 1993. Desde entonces, ha dirigido películas tanto en Francia como en Argelia. Su largometraje Normal! (2011) ganó el Premio a Mejor Ficción Árabe en el Festival de Cine de Doha. Un año más tarde, The Repentant (“El arrepentido”) fue proyectada durante la Quincena de los Realizadores en Cannes y The Rooftops (“Los techos”, 2013) participó de la Selección Oficial del Festival de Cine Internacional de Venecia.
