In the Shadow of a Man entrelaza sus mundos a través de relatos sobre el matrimonio, el divorcio, el amor y la resistencia, y refl eja sus vidas con la mayor lucha de Egipto por la libertad y la autodeterminación.

In the wake of the Egyptian revolution, four women speak of their fight for the future and what it means to be a woman in Egypt. In the Shadow of a Man weaves through their worlds as they tell us their stories of marriage, divorce, love and resistance, mirroring their lives with Egypt’s greater struggle for freedom and self-determination.

HANAN ABDALLA es una directora independiente británico-egipcia de documentales. In the Shadow of a Man (A la sombra de un hombre) es su primer largometraje documental. Nació en Londres en 1988 y se recibió en el 2010 en la Universidad de Oxford, donde estudió Política y Filosofía. Trabaja en El Cairo, con una organización de medios independientes llamada Mosireen y actualmente lleva a cabo la post-producción de un largometraje documental, con Zero Production y UN Women [Mujeres de la ONU], sobre las candidatas mujeres que se postulan en las primeras elecciones parlamentarias de Egipto tras la caída de Mubarak.

HANAN ABDALLA is a British-Egyptian freelance documentary filmmaker. In the Shadow of a Man is her first feature-length documentary. Born in London in 1988, Hanan graduated from Oxford University in 2010, where she
studied Politics & Philosophy. Hanan works with the independent media collective Mosireen in Cairo, and is currently in post-production on a feature-length documentary, with Zero Production and UN Women, on women candidates running in Egypt’s first parliamentary elections after the fall of Mubarak.
